Helms replied with a story that he was mugged the other day with a bum hitting him with a bottle, and he decided to sit back and wait for him to hit himself. He finally did, but Helms was unconscious but he felt he won that battle. I felt that summed up my feelings about the Democrats.
Yes, a third party would be a welcome alternative, led by someone charismatic enough to follow.Tony Colletthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00681683720184752588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18829500.post-1142629906942863992006-03-17T16:11:00.000-05:002006-03-17T16:11:00.000-05:00They're all a bunch of cowards. They'd never envisioned the career politicians of today. You were supposed to go to Washington, bear up with the heat, do the country's business, then go back to your farm and live your life.

I blame air conditioning.Laurie Borishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08361627047571650547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18829500.post-1142615994948615572006-03-17T12:19:00.000-05:002006-03-17T12:19:00.000-05:00Marshall claims that impeachment is a quick fix an... Marshall claims that impeachment is a quick fix and ultimately a bad idea and would set a bad precedent.

Josh Marshall says that impeaching Bush would set a *bad precedent*?????

Jesus H. While we haven't talked about it, at all, it's exactly my sentiment.

::In my best Nancy Kerrigan imitation:: WHY?!?!? Why won't they push? What the hell are they waiting for him to do? It drives me batshit!! Maybe not batshit enough to vote for Ralph...;), but it makes you want to get in your car and drive to Washington and make them tell me to my face why they are letting el Jefe get away with everything he is doing. Look me in the eye and tell me, Mother Fuckers!! They take all the same bribes the 'Pubs do when they're in the majority. They pull all the same nasty behind-the-scenes shit to make money for campaign finance. If they take a stand now, who knows what skeletons the 'Pubs'll drag out of their closets?

America doesn't stand a chance as long as it's only choices are the Dems or the 'Pubs.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18829500.post-1142556680604814512006-03-16T19:51:00.000-05:002006-03-16T19:51:00.000-05:00It's been a depressing and depressed row, hasn't i...It's been a depressing and depressed row, hasn't it? I signed online petitiions and sent them along, stopping immediately afterward to have a laugh when I realized that (in my case) those notes were primarily headed for Santorum and Specter. Yeah, that's going to do a lot... Heh.

I'm right with you when it comes to being so close to giving up when faced again and again with such a spineless lot who seem to refuse to learn the simple lesson that to go along with the GOP trend - to be a collaborator - isn't helping anyone but the GOP. The only thing that keeps me from throwing in the towel is that that's exactly what the GOP & Bush Administration want. A great deal of the political grind is intended not to win supporters but to get us to feel so powerless and unpolarized that we disenfranchise ourselves.

When I look back over the past six years -- taking my own due lumps -- I'm finally realizing that throwing in behind Nader in 2000 might have been the best move for most Democrats to make in 2000*. Sure, it's all hindsight, and it's not taking into account all of the political capital Bush and the GOP picked up as the party of the military after 9/11. Still, had a great many of the rest of us done so while Bush would have had an easy victory in 2000 by this point the Democratic party might be something.

If the Democrats have an aneurysm and nominate Hillary for '08 I might just write in "Ralph Nader."

Oh, it's going to get so much worse before it has a good shot at getting better...

*Yes, I know you voted for Nader, but as a resident of Florida History's damned you. ;)Mike Nortonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13025995292338904959noreply@blogger.com
