I mostly just wanted to try and hypothesize as to why this might be.

Laurpus,

Hair care products on a plane. Hmmm. Can we get Samuel L. Jackson to star in it?

Tams,

Ooooh. I really like the DEADWOOD references. And I enjoy picturing the entire Dubya Administration as Mose, too. I'm engaged to George Clooney...;) Excellent...Wow. I'm engaged to George Clooney...;)

Excellent post, Sweetie. And pretty spot on, I'd imagine. My initial thought, before I got to your (much better) write up of it, was that without seeing results, Americans (or anyone else for that matter) aren't going to want to sacrifice for long and YES, YES, YES they don't want results.

To keep the turmoil going for their own agenda and to remind us how much we need them to protect us and to keep things going without all of us having to sacrifice.

I'd imagine, though, that there are a great many Americans who feel they have sacrificed. Probably starting with the family members of the folks who perished on 9/11 and including the loved ones of the soldiers who are dying every day overseas. But with human number 300 billion arriving later today, I imagine those who feel they've sacrificed for this effort (and sacrificed greatly)...the Cindy Sheehans and the like...are still a relatively small group.

As long as we can keep with our lives as is, and we don't have to serve up anyone in our own families, most of us are going to ignore the entire thing. Which is an unpallatable state of affairs. We'll turn off the tv, overlook the newspapers, and never connect with the situation at all.

If we're doing aluminum drives and rationing and all the things that were done in WWII, we're keeping it in everyone's face in a way that won't ALLOW them to ignore it. Won't ALLOW them to get on with the business of living as is. And if they do that, people will DEMAND results. They will DEMAND some relief from the sacrifices. They will DEMAND to know the whatfor's and why's. And, as you said, that is not for us to know.

It's Dubya telling us, "Quit acting entitled and fuck yourself.", and the rest of us nodding our heads and throwing back a shot of whiskey to numb the reality.SuperWifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02856384425069616224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18829500.post-1160924322897450492006-10-15T10:58:00.000-04:002006-10-15T10:58:00.000-04:00Yeah, I agree with both of you.But hell, isn't not...Yeah, I agree with both of you.

But hell, isn't not being able to get on a plane with the hairstyling product of your choice enough of a sacrifice? Oh...right...we can do that again.

Never mind.Laurie Borishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08361627047571650547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18829500.post-1160876160610075782006-10-14T21:36:00.000-04:002006-10-14T21:36:00.000-04:00For a guy who 'sucks at poli-blogging' you sure se...For a guy who 'sucks at poli-blogging' you sure seem to have your finger on the pulse of the national gestalt.

Nothing to add here.

Well...

I have to admit, yours is a novel observation, to me at least. It is curious, isn't it? If the 'War on Terror' (TM) is so important, why aren't we being asked to strangle the pipeline of money that funds the terrorists?Natehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04492265703592804987noreply@blogger.com
