Because certainly reading the telephone book, or the Betty Crocker Cookbook, or Dr. Seuss ABC's would be just the same as reading the next one in a series that you (and millions of others) have been anxiously awaiting. Ahhh, the literary crowd.

I didn't get the impression that your blog post was an attempt to get Martin to finish his book faster (more an attempt to vent your frustrations over his inability in that regard). But, maybe I missed something...SuperWifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02856384425069616224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18829500.post-80323692938496862822007-04-06T08:33:00.000-04:002007-04-06T08:33:00.000-04:00Frank,I don't see how pissing and moaning is going...Frank,

I don't see how pissing and moaning is going to get Martin to write a book any faster, either. In fact, I don't see how anything except him actually sitting down and working on the book, instead of, you know, all that other shit he'd rather do instead, is going to get the book finished any faster. In further fact, I'm pretty sure that was one of the main points of my entry.

It doesn't surprise me that you've apparently missed that point, as you also missed every other one. However, I'm a pretty clear writer, so if you're missing my points, you're either being deliberately obtuse for purposes of being a dickhead, or, you're just stupid. Whichever, while I thank you for your comment, I have little time in my life budget for either dickheads or dumbasses.

With that, I'll say good bye, and continue reading the other book I'm halfway through now (Hambly's SISTERS OF THE RAVEN, if you care, or, actually, even if you don't).Doc Nebulahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13052810933464744998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18829500.post-63165785333826947372007-04-06T05:52:00.000-04:002007-04-06T05:52:00.000-04:00I dunno, I see a lot of sniveling in the open lett...I dunno, I see a lot of sniveling in the open letter.

So, some guy hasn't finished a book when he said he might. Big deal.

Go read another book. Really. There a LOT of books out there. I heard it on the news.

He doesn't have to finish his book, and you don't have to sit around waiting for it.

I don't see how pissing and moaning is going to make the book finish itself any faster.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18829500.post-77585770401054604722007-04-05T10:10:00.000-04:002007-04-05T10:10:00.000-04:00What honestly amazed me was that, in all that hiss...What honestly amazed me was that, in all that hissing and huffing, he never actually got around to typing what I imagine he must have really wanted to say most -- "Well, if you people are going to actually hold me to my promises, then I just won't make them any more. Nyaaaah!"

But to me it comes down to two things. First, he clearly isn't making anything like an effort to get the books out in anything like a timely fashion. He doesn't have to, so he isn't going to. That's okay, but if that's what it's like, then he should own it and move on.

Second, again, I no longer have any faith whatsoever that he can deliver any kind of satisfactory conclusion to this whole mess. In fact, I'll predict right here and now, if he does get the next volume done, it will be the last one he writes by himself. The volume after that, if one is ever produced, will be either a collaboration, or a WILD CARDS type of group project novel, with every writer he's ever worked with invited to handle a particular storyline for him.

I am inclined to think it will be the last, because that way, when it doesn't fully satisfy the audience, well, it won't be his fault. His fans will have an out -- "Well, if they'd just let George write the whole thing, it would have been amazing, but since they decided to do it this way just in order to finish it quicker, that's what killed it."Doc Nebulahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13052810933464744998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18829500.post-79305893620719107472007-04-05T09:58:00.000-04:002007-04-05T09:58:00.000-04:00My favourite part is this:" And there's been work ...My favourite part is this:

" And there's been work on other projects, on comics and The World of Ice & Fire and the games and the new Wild Cards book, Inside Straight. And there was football, and cons to attend"

So, in other words, he's not finished writing the book because he's not actually *writing* the damn thing at present. But perhaps he will get around to it, except it's so *sniff* stressful being asked when the book he promised last year will be ready.

Poor dear.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
