Comic Books, Comic Books

(sung to the tune of a TV theme song no true Silver Age comics geek should need me to further explicate)

Comic books, comic books
trashy four color comic books
Is that Daredevil story good?
Dude, it's pencilled by Wally Wood
You know it's a great comic book

Comic books, comic books
Marvel or DC comic books
If you read Harvey, you're a twat
We sneer at you and your Li'l Dot
Hey chump -- read some real comic books

Off the spinner rack
for a few paltry dimes
you could read about
some guy made out of slime!

Comic books, comic books
your vast collection of comic books
you won't keep it, there's no doubt
your mom will at some point throw it out
it's true -- all mothers hate comic books

  1. Heh...I don't remember the whole tune. I'm not worthy!!!!!

And, believe me, if "all moms" threw out comic books, I'd have to take several days off of work to fulfill my destiny.

  3. Tams,

You're not MY mom, though. But you could, and at some point almost certainly will, throw out all the GIRLS' comics. Its inevitable. ;)

    Tony,

Yeah, there was always a mook like you around, wanting to trade RICHIE RICH and SPOOKY comics for a hit of X-MEN or BATMAN. We always sent the poor kid packing.

My 'gateway' was DC; it led to mainlining with Marvel stuff.

  4. I didn't say I still read them, I just said I started with them. And I didn't trade with you mopes, I kept 'em all and read 'em all. If you wanna say Marvel and DC were better than Harvey, no argument here, but because I like pizza doesn't mean I eat it all the time.

  5. Oh, I'm a total geek girl. Not only do I know the theme but I know all the lyrics and even taught them to my nephews when we were taking a long car trip together.

    Cripes.

And my mom wouldn't DARE throw out our comic books...or our baseball cards...but I was so PISSED; my Vida Blue and Tom Seaver rookie cards got trashed in a flood.

And I was into Archie and Betty and Veronica too. And R. Crumb. So I guess I wasn't a total geek.

  6. Nice parody. You write it?

    Carmichael,
Think back to the first Toby McGuire movie, and the Tom-Petty-wannabe in the subway strumming his guitar for change. That song he was crooning was a perfect subway-strummer adaptation of the 60s or 70s animated (Hanna Barberra?) Spiderman theme song. Watch out! Here Comes the Spiderman!!

    Spider-man, Spider-man
    Does whatever a spider can
    Spins a web, any size
    Catches thieves, just like flies
Look out! Here comes the Spider-man!

    Is he strong? Listen, Bud!
    He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread?
    Take a look overhead.
Hey there, there goes the Spider-man!

    In the chill of night,
At the scene of the crime
    Like a streak of light
    He arrives just in time

    Spider-man, Spider-man
    Friendly neighborhood Spider-man
    Wealth and fame, he's ignored
    Action is his reward

To him, life is a great big bang-up
    Wherever there's a hang-up
    You'll find the Spider-man!
